They rang in the holidays with news of their engagement , but there will be no wedding bells after all for Hugh Hefner and Crystal Harris.

The playmate, 25, called off the nuptials on Tuesday, just days before they were to tie the knot Saturday at the Playboy Mansion.

"The wedding is off," Hefner Tweeted . "Crystal has had a change of heart."

"After much deep reflection and thought I have decided to end my engagement with Hef," Harris wrote on her website. "I have the utmost respect for Hef and wish him the best going forward. I hope the media will give each of us the privacy we deserve during this time."

More than 300 people had been invited – via Papeterie custom-made invitations – to their big day , which called for a pink Romona Keveza gown and Torrance Bakery strawberry cake.

This would have been the third marriage for Hefner, 85, who filed for divorce in 2009 from his second wife, former playmate Kimberly Conrad. He was previously married to Mildred Williams, whom he divorced in 1959.

"I heard the sad news today this morning," Harris's manager Michael Blakey tells PEOPLE. "The split was a mutual decision and the two remain good friends."

Candy Spelling's massive 57,000 square-foot home has finally sold -- for an undisclosed price -- to Formula One heiress Petra Ecclestone. The home had been shown since 2008 and officially on the market since 2009, reports the Wall Street Journal.

The home was first listed at $150 million, and while we're not sure of the final sale price, Realtor.com points out that "listing agents Rick Hilton and Jeff Hyland of Hilton & Hyland and Sally Forster Jones of Coldwell Banker stand to possibly make a combined $9 million in commissions" if it's anywhere near the original asking price.

Candy's mansion sits on five acres in the exclusive Holmby Hills neighborhood and contains fourteen bedrooms and twenty-seven bathrooms. It contains special rooms dedicated to activities like wrapping presents and storing silverware, in addition to the usual luxe amenities: wine cellar, bowling alley, screening room, library, and gym, according to the Associated Press.

Petra Ecclestone is a 22-year old fashion designer who has been described as "one of the most spoilt girls in Britain," according to the Daily Mail. Earlier this year, Ecclestone's father, Formula One CEO Bernie Ecclestone, bought a £56 million home for Petra in London, who claimed it was for her five dogs.

Anthony Weiner's office says in a statement that he sent explicit photos of himself. A spokeswoman made the statement Wednesday as an X-rated photo turned up on the Internet.

The photo, which shows a man's genitals, was published by a website after conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart showed it to the hosts of Sirius XM radio's Opie & Anthony Show.

Separately, officials say Weiner's wife, Huma Abedin, is pregnant . A spokesman at the State Department, where she is a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, had no comment, but several Democrats said the couple had told their friends.

Weiner is facing calls for the first time for his resignation from Democrats, led by Rep. Allyson Schwartz of Pennsylvania.

"In light of Anthony Weiner's offensive behavior online, he should resign," Schwartz, a member of the party campaign committee's leadership, said in a statement that was quickly followed by similar expressions from other Democrats.

Separately, as the political scandal increasingly roiled the Democratic Party, several officials said that Weiner's wife, Huma Abedin, was pregnant. An official at the State Department, where Abedin serves as deputy chief of staff to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, had no comment.

Weiner, 46, has admitted sending explicit photos and messages via the Internet to about a half-dozen women over the past three years. He vowed at a news conference on Monday to remain in office, and one lawmaker who spoke to him on Wednesday said Weiner indicated he still hopes to ride out the furor and remain in Congress. That lawmaker spoke on condition of anonymity, saying it was a private conversation.

But the appearance of a photo of a man's genitals added yet another aspect to what appears to be a sex scandal without actual sex in the age of social media. According to conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart, Weiner sent the picture of himself to one of the women with whom he corresponded online.

The Associated Press has not been able to independently confirm that the photo is of Weiner. On Wednesday, spokeswoman Risa B. Heller noted in a statement that Weiner had said at a news conference on Monday that he "has sent explicit photos. To reiterate, he has never met any of these women or had physical contact with them."

The photo made its way to the website Gawker by a circuitous route, after Breitbart showed it to the hosts of Sirius XM radio's Opie and Anthony Show.

By day's end Wednesday, at least six House Democrats had called for Weiner to step down.

Schwartz was the first, and politically the most significant because of her position as a senior leader on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Weiner's predicament has rocked the Democratic Party, particularly the women who hold leadership posts and have faced a choice between calling for a resignation or hoping that refraining from doing so would lead him to quit without being told.

In the interim, few pass up the chance to signal to Weiner that he should step down.

The head of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Sen. Patty Murray, told reporters during the day that Weiner's troubles "of course" complicate the party's efforts ahead of in the 2012 elections.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif. said, "I just view it with great surprise and dismay. That's all I can say."

Feinstein and Murray were first elected to the Senate in 1992, the so-called "year of the women" that was a watershed in Democratic political history.

The party's leader in the House, Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California has called for an ethics committee investigation to see whether Weiner's actions violated any House rules.

Pelosi and the party's chairwoman, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, declined to respond directly on Tuesday when the Republican chairman, Reince Priebus, urged them to say whether they believe Weiner should step down.

The Democratic National Committee has adamantly refused to comment, while a spokesman in Wasserman Schultz's congressional office has said only that she supports Pelosi's call for an ethics investigation. By contrast, the former Democratic Party chairman, Tim Kaine, has urged Weiner to quit. Kaine is running for the Senate in Virginia.

While declining to make any public comments since Monday, Weiner has been on something of an apology tour by telephone. He has contacted fellow House members and former President Bill Clinton, who officiated at the congressman's wedding to Abedin nearly a year ago.

The officials who spoke about the telephone calls did so on condition of anonymity, saying they were private matters.

LOS ANGELES -- Selena Gomez has been admitted to a hospital following an appearance on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."

A spokeswoman for the "Wizards of Waverly Place" star says Gomez "wasn't feeling well and was taken to the hospital" and is undergoing "routine tests." She did not specify Gomez's condition.

The 18-year-old singer-actress was promoting the upcoming film "Monte Carlo" on the talk show.

Gomez's appearance to promote the film at a Santa Monica, Calif., mall on Friday was canceled.

The hospitalization was first reported by TMZ, which said Gomez suffered from nausea and a headache before going to a Los Angeles-area hospital.

Scarlett Johansson slips into a catsuit for her role as undercover spy Black Widow in the action-adventure sequel Iron Man 2. She tells Gill Pringle why playing a vamp has been a liberating experience.

When Scarlett Johansson purrs, "I don't do damsel in distress very well. It's hard for me to play a victim," you don't doubt her for a second.

Like Angelina Jolie, Johansson is one of a handful of actresses who can convincingly convey a dangerous sex appeal, a sense of being able to devour a man while casually filing her nails at the same time. And so it makes perfect sense that she should be cast as the Black Widow, one of the comic-book world's most predatory females who also serves to keep Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark on his toes in Iron Man 2.

Wearing a beige figure-hugging Dolce & Gabbana dress and Christian Louboutin ankle boots, she tells me: "I love everything about this character. She's a total bad ass," says the blonde star who died her hair red for the role of deadly super spy and Black Widow, Natasha Romanoff. "I love every tiny detail from her fabulous outfit to the wonderful hair. I mean, there's nothing not to like about the character. She's very bad, and I think it's rare that we get to see these sort of super heroines brought to the screen, where they're really kicking some major ass, which she does."

With so many superlatives attached to her name like "world's sexiest body" courtesy of Glamour magazine or Playboy's "Sexiest Celebrity of 2007" or even FHM's "Sexiest Woman Alive", you get the general idea. It's a vamp-ish image that the 25-year-old actress clearly enjoys having fun with.

Raised in New York by Danish-born architect father Karsten Johansson and American mother Melanie Sloan, her parents divorced when she was 13 years old although she has nevertheless described hers as a happy childhood where she, and her elder brother and sister and twin brother, were encouraged to pursue their dreams. A keen dancer and singer, she begged her mother to take her to auditions and was enrolled at the Professional Children's School in Manhattan. Her mother continues to act as her manager today as well a co-producing several of Johansson's films.

Just 10 when she began working, she quickly won small roles in big movies, playing Sean Connery's daughter in Just Cause and with Sarah Jessica Parker and Ben Stiller in If Lucy Fell. At 13, she was cast as the big sister in John Hughes's Home Alone 3, a year later disappointed when she lost out to newcomer Lindsay Lohan for the lead role in Parent Trap only to go on to win her break-through role starring opposite Robert Redford in The Horse Whisperer.

Working regularly through her high school years, at 19, she became an overnight sensation following her performances in Girl with a Pearl Earring and Lost in Translation for which she received a Bafta together with Golden Globe nominations for both films. At the same time, she also found the spotlight sharply focused on her private life, her subsequent relationships with Benicio del Toro, Jared Leto and Justin Timberlake becoming juicy tabloid fodder, while the actress herself maintained a dignified silence.

Earning a third Golden Globe nomination for 2004's A Love Story for Bobby Long, co-starring John Travolta, some of her best work has been under the direction of Woody Allen with whom she's worked three times with Scoop, Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Match Point for which she earned a fourth Golden Globe nomination.

Discussing her relationship with manager mother Sloan, she told US Parade magazine: "It's been an amazing journey for the two of us. While her career seems to be a happy result of timely opportunities, then Iron Man 2's Black Widow is one role she actively campaigned for after actress Emily Blunt dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.

"I was a huge fan of the first movie and was quite 'geek-ed' out at being part of the second one. I just wanted to be a part of Iron Man so I really researched the comic books and came in with some ideas of my own about how to develop the character. I see her as being determined and ambitious but I don't know necessarily that it's so black or white. She's a mysterious character, a kind of shape shifter, I would say.

"It's been an empowering experience, which made me feel much stronger than I've ever felt before just because I built so much strength. I had no choice, I had to do it. I mean, if you want to do these stunts, you just have to be strong in order to do them. So, a lot of that was just being able to build my own sense of balance and flexibility and strength. I did a lot of weight training, mixed martial arts and hand-to-hand combat. When you're working out that much you also have to feed your new body, so you eat in a different way, very clean, lots of omelettes, turkey, and stuff like that.

"One of the biggest motivators was when I first saw my costume – the Lycra catsuit. The first time I saw it I was like 'If I've gotta get into that thing, I better start now'. The challenge was to get in the suit and believe it. I wish I could have kept it afterwards but unfortunately it's the property of Marvel so, after I took it off for the final time, I said, 'Ta-ta for now. I love you! Hopefully, I'll see you in the future!'"

Having previously taken a strong stance on the pressure on actresses to be super skinny, Johansson is proud of her curves. "I really like to keep in shape with a healthy lifestyle – nothing extreme. I don't need to be skinny to be sexy. You're never going to see me losing a whole bunch of weight. I'm not anxious to starve myself. For me, it's not at all sexy to be ultra-thin."

While vamping it up on screen, in her private life she has settled down, 18 months ago walking down the aisle with Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds in an intimate ceremony attended by just 40 close friends and family. Determined to keep it a private paparazzi-free affair, the couple wed at Clayoquot Wilderness Resort in British Columbia, on an island reached only by sea plane or a 30-minute boat ride. The first time at the altar for them both, Johansson had previously ended a two-year relationship with Josh Hartnett, while Reynolds had earlier been engaged to singer Alanis Morissette.

While the couple's busy schedules allowed little time for a honeymoon, the past six months has seen them slow down the pace and enjoy married life, living between homes in New York and Los Angeles. Reluctant to describe her process, she says: "You don't want to see the man behind the curtain. Our process is a very introspective one, and it's strange to share that with the general public – just as you probably wouldn't want to tell us all about your therapy sessions. In a way, acting is a very cathartic experience. You're imparting your personal experience into the characters you play. I've never quite been able to grasp the concept of giving away all of your secrets and wanting to describe your method and your process. It's one thing if you're a part of the Actors Studio and you're working with a bunch of other actors, and you're discussing these types of things. But guaranteed, no other actor is going to ask you what you're working from, what you're drawing from. I think it makes no sense to me as to why we would want to share that with anybody else, certainly."

Recently signed on to co-star in the thriller Lunatic at Large, based on an original story by Stanley Kubrick and pulp writer Jim Thompson, the script being hailed as "buried treasure", while a further outing as the Black Widow in superhero franchise The Avengers rests largely on the success of Iron Man 2.

Ask her how she handled herself among Iron Man 2's largely male cast, she teases, "You know I can handle myself. You don't doubt that, do you?"

Kate Beckinsale was born on 26 July 1973 in England, and has resided in London for most of her life. Her mother is Judy Loe, who has appeared in a number of British dramas and sitcoms and continues to work as an actress, predominantly in British television productions. Her father was Richard Beckinsale, born in Nottingham, England. He starred in a number of popular British television comedies during the 1970s, most notably the series "Rising Damp" (1974), "Porridge" (1974) and "The Lovers" (1970). He passed away tragically early in 1979 at the age of 31.

Kate attended the private school Godolphin and Latymer School in London for her grade and primary school education. In her teens she twice won the British bookseller W.H. Smith Young Writers' competition - once for three short stories and once for three poems. After a tumultuous adolescence (a bout of anorexia - cured - and a smoking habit which continues to this day), she gradually took up the profession of acting.

Her major acting debut came in a TV film about World War II called One Against the Wind (1991) (TV), filmed in Luxembourg during the summer of 1991. It first aired on American television that December. Kate began attending Oxford University's New College in the fall of 1991, majoring in French and Russian literature. She had already decided that she wanted to act, but to broaden her horizons she chose university over drama school. While in her first year at Oxford, Kate received her big break in Kenneth Branagh's film adaptation of William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing (1993). The "Transformers" co-star tops FHM's annual 100 Sexiest Women in the World poll of FHM readers. The 21-year-old model-actress beat out the likes of Angelina Jolie (No. 12), Rihanna (No. 14), Kim Kardashian (No. 17), Paris Hilton (No. 77) and last year's champion, Jessica Alba (No. 3).

Fox debuted on the annual list in 2006 at No. 68 and ranked at No. 65 in 2007. Joining her in the top 10 this year are _ in descending order _ Jessica Biel, Alba, Elisha Cuthbert, Scarlett Johansson, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Hilary Duff, Tricia Helfer, Blake Lively and Kate Beckinsale. While Zeta-Jones - who has two children, Dylan, 9, and Carys, 6, with husband Michael Douglas - has no problems getting naked, she recently admitted it's harder to do now the family live in New York rather than Bermuda.
She said: "In Bermuda, the children were like naked, opening the back door. So was I. Just running out into the garden. It's really hard to do that in Central Park!"

Sandra Bullock's divorce papers ready

No one in her inner circle knows when she will file them but she is resolute in her intent to divorce her cheating husband Jesse James.
Sandra is still reeling under the shock of Jesse's treachery and cannot reconcile to the fact that he cheated on her throughout their marriage.
"Her attitude toward Jesse hasn't softened since she found out he was cheating on her," a source tells Radar Online. "She's been betrayed and cheated on and she's not getting over that."
Meanwhile Jesse has left Sierra Tuscon rehab in Arizona within a week of entering the facility after Sandra refused to take his calls from there. He saw no point in continuing when it wouldn't make Sandra change her mind about the divorce.
Sandra didn't ask Jesse to undergo rehab and apparently Jesse didn't consult her before doing so.
Sources tell Radar Online that Sandra and Jesse's prenup specifically covers cheating and precludes any payment at the time of divorce when cheating the cause.

BRITTANY MURPHY DIES

Actress Brittany Murphy died early this morning after she went into cardiac arrest and couldn't be revived, reports TMZ.

The Fire Department reportedly received a call at 8:00AM from the home that belonged to her husband, Simon Monjack.

She was discovered unconscious in the shower at around 8am by her mother. They immediately took her to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where they pronounced her dead upon arrival. She was announced dead at 10:04AM.

According to her mother Sharon, Brittany was diabetic, but it's yet to be determined if diabetes contributed to her death.

"In this time of sadness, the family thanks you for your love and support. It is their wish that you respect their privacy," Brittany's rep Nicole Perna said in a statement to Hollyscoop.

Los Angeles' county coroner also confirmed: "We do have a preliminary death report of a Brittany Murphy" coming from Cedars-Sinai."

Shortly after her death, her ex boyfriend Ashton Kutcher paid tribute to her via his Twitter page. He tweeted: "2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine. My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany's family, her husband, and her amazing mother Sharon. See you on the other side kid. (sic)"

She was only 32 years old. Murphy stared in such films as "Clueless " and "Sin City" and "8 Mile." She will appear in Sylvester Stallone’s new film, “The Expendables,” set for release next year.

In May of 2007, she married her White Hotel director, Simon Monjack and when asked about her New Years resolutions, she recently said, I’d love to have a child next year." Unfortunately, her life was cut short as she was pronounced dead at 32 this morning.

She was so young, it's such a tragic loss! Our condolences go out to her family.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday morning.
